What does it take to be a great spokesperson for your organisation or cause? Here are some tips:
1. Be Available – Make your email and phone number available to the media and answer their calls in a timely fashion. You never want to be “unavailable for comment."
2. Be Personable – Reporters and the public want to deal with a living person.
3. Be Quotable – Work with your PR team to prepare some quotable quotes in advance. Never let a reporter hang up before giving him or her some decent quotes.
4. Be Certain – If you hesitate or can’t answer a question, your credibility will vanish. Anticipate questions and answer with authority.
5. Be Truthful – Never say anything that is untrue or that you are not sure about. It will come back to haunt you.
