It was great to get McAuley CEO Joce Bignold onto Triple M Hot Breakfast to talk with Eddie McGuire and the team about family violence and the support McAuley gives to women.
The men were blown away by some of the ghastly facts - over 70 women are killed each year by their current or former partner and over 62,000 incidents of family violence (over 1,000 a week) are reported to the Victoria Police.
We are now at epidemic levels of reporting - thanks to the many prevention programs in place - but more investment has to be made into funding crisis accommodation and affordably housing programs.
McAuley runs Victoria's only 24/7 crisis accommodation for women and their children escaping family violence. It also runs five refuges as well as provides accommodation to women who are homeless or have a mental illness.
