Over the weekend we had the fully clothed helmet optional ride on Saturday followed by the helmeted nude bike ride on Sunday.
In the middle of all this, Arnie Schwarzenegger was in town to promote fitness and was seen riding a bike without a helmet, just as he was two years ago.
Arnie was just doing something that is normal in 99% of the world, but in Victoria you could be hit with a $198 fine for choosing to ride a bike without a helmet.
Whilst our resident bike rider, who was behind much of the media for the Helmet Optional Ride, would one day like to see a partial relaxation of mandatory helmet laws he does acknowledge that if he falls off his bike the helmet will offer some level of protection. What he strongly objects to is that he can be fined for such a healthy transport choice.
Sunday’s nude ride was all about raising awareness for road safety with the mantra “can you see us now?"
