Choosing the right colour profile for your business is a rudimentary first step to creating a logo and other imagery.
MediaWise has been asked so many times to explain the basics to its clients who enter unfamiliar jargon when dealing with printers and graphic designers.
Indeed colours do sound like an alphabet soup – CMYK, RGB and so on. Here is our basic guide to helping you out.
CMYK Colour Profile
CMYK is used for printing and features four colours: cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. CMYK is the profile used for virtually any printed product, from posters to business cards. You can create a stunning array of different shades with these inks. Together, they create a deep, rich black.
RGB Colour Profile
If you are creating images for use on a lit screen (app, website, digital magazine, TV advert), you will use the RGB colour profile. This uses red, green, and blue to create various colours. Mixed together, these three basic colours create pure, bright white.
Pantone Colours
The Pantone Matching System is a type of colour profile that you can use to match colours perfectly. Pantone colour matching only works with spot printing for printed materials.
